Chichewa Language Lessons 2022

From March-May 2022, the SMP hosted a seven week course where participants could establish a foundation in Chichewa, one of Malawi's most spoken languages.

Location Zoom

Participants were given the opportunity to learn how to greet their Malawian friends and hold basic conversations across various scenarios, such as buying food at the local market, visiting hospitals and discussing what they do for work. They also learned about the grammar and structure of the language, so they could how the language works alongside lots of useful vocabulary.

These courses are perfect for those visiting Malawi (when able to do so) as they include not just Chichewa training but also really useful and insightful information and discussions around Malawian culture, all in a relaxed and friendly environment. They are led by the brilliant Enock Bamusi and Sarah Niven – a great Malawi-Scotland team in action!

This round of lessons has now ended but the course will return in 2023. If you are interested in more beginner Chichewa lessons before the end of 2022, interested in more advanced lessons or would prefer to learn Chitumbuka, another of Malawi's most prominent languages, please complete the survey available here. This will help us develop lessons more suited to your needs.
