Lake of Stars Festival Glasgow

Glasgow city centre was transformed into the Warm Heart of Africa for one day only! Lake of Stars Glasgow featured live music and poetry, and a Malawian market full of food, drinks and gifts.

The SMP was proud to help bring the world-famous Malawian music festival Lake of Stars to Glasgow on Sunday 11th March for a special one-day festival.

Glasgow city centre was transformed into the Warm Heart of Africa and featured live music and poetry, and a Malawian market full of food, drinks, and gifts.

The one-day event in championed creative connections between Scotland and Africa, featuring free daytime activities followed by a ticketed evening concert.

Day time music included Scottish L-Space and Bwani Junction, Malawians Davie Luhanga, Moyenda and Danny Kalima, and Kobi Onyame from Ghana.

The evening line-up included Scott Hutchinson, frontman for Scottish alt-folk act Frightened Rabbit, Ghanaian hip hop artist M.anifest, Malawi singer-songwriter Faith Mussa, Scottish poet Michael Pedersen, and DJ Auntie Flo.

The Glasgow event built on the historic Scotland–Malawi connection and was part of the SMP's #BuyMalawian2018 campaign, promoting trade between the countries by showcasing products such as coffee, tea, chilli sauce, rice, visual arts and crafts.
