Higher Education Round Table Meeting on SPHEIR

Discussion on DFID's new 'Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reform' (SPHEIR) programme.

The Scotland Malawi Partnership applauds DFID’s new 'Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education Innovation and Reform' (SPHEIR) programme, which looks to build capacity of higher education in countries like Malawi, working through north-south partnerships.

Given the scale of grants available (up to £5 million) and the potentially finite absorptive capacity in Malawi, we are encouraging our higher education members to come together to develop a consortium Scotland-Malawi bid.

The first stage in these discussions will be a roundtable meeting on Wednesday 29th June, 2-4pm, at the Edinburgh City Chambers, Mandela Room.

We are delighted to welcome the Vice Chancellor of the University of Malawi, John Saka and the Principal of the Polytechnic, Grant Kululanga, to join this meeting. We hope to also have a visiting delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development with us.

All SMP members involved in higher education links with Malawi are invited to join this roundtable meeting. This will be a chance to meet the VC and the Principal, to listen to their priorities, to share information about Scotland-Malawi higher education links, and to begin a discussion about a possible Scottish consortium bit to SPHIER.

To book a place, please email Keith(at)scotland-malawipartnership.org
