Malawi Vice President and 8 others confirmed dead in tragic plane crash

The Scotland Malawi Partnership extends its sincere condolences to HE President Chakwera, to the people of the Republic of Malawi and to the families of Malawi's Vice President, Dr Saulos Chilima, the Former First Lady, Shanil Dzimbiri and fellow passengers Lucas Kapheni, Chisomo Chimaneni, Dan Kanyemba, Abdul Lapukeni, Colonel Sambalopa, Major Selemani and Major Aidin who have tragically lost their lives in a military aircraft crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Addressing Malawians in a live broadcast today, President Chakwera said: "I can only imagine how much pain and anguish you all must be having at this point in time". The President described Dr Chilima as a distinctive man of honour, a great father and husband, as well as a great patriot who has served the nation selflessly.

A memorial service organised by the Association of Malawians in Scotland (AMS) will take place Sunday, 16 June 2024, 2.30pm to 5.30pm at:
