New Malawi entry fees

Last week we reported that the new visa fees for UK nationals arriving into Malawi had been postponed to 1st October 2015. We met with the new Malawi High Commissioner to discuss this topic and have since received a number of briefings and updates.
From the 1st October 2015 there will be new entry fees for those visiting Malawi:
- Transit visa (valid for 7 days): $50 US Dollars
- Single entry visa (valid for 3 months): $75 US Dollars
- Multiple entry visa (valid for 6 months): $150 US Dollars
- Multiple entry visa (valid for 12 months): $250 US Dollars

We know some members were charged entry fees in July but we are told this was a short-term measure and have confirmation from the Government of Malawi that no fees will be charged until 1st October.
We are working with the High Commission to learn more about how, from 1st October, fees will need to be paid.
We recognize that Malawians we invite to the UK are charged far more, and treated far worse, than UK nationals arriving in Malawi and we encourage members to not begrudge this contribution at the point of arrival. However, we acknowledge that the confusion and uncertainty as to the roll-out of these costs is far from ideal and we are doing everything possible to get the latest information for members.
